While CAL/ACEP does not direclty engage in political advocacy, it does sponsor the Emergency Medical Political Action Committee (EMPAC), easily the strongest and best funded specialty society political action committee in California. With nearly $900,000 raised since 2003, and almost half-million dollars contributed to candidates and causes supportive of emergency care, EMPAC has established itself as the leading political voice for emergency medicine. EMPAC relies on the generous support of California's emergency physicians to fulfill its mission of giving physicians and patients a voice in the political process.
